Are you familiar with the network architecture of the #NVIDIA DGX #H100 SuperPOD? Have you had a chance to consider the number of optical transceivers that might be needed? Let's explore this together, using the NVIDIA 4 SU solution as a guide to estimate the number of optical transceivers. In the H100+ConnectX-7+QM9700 two-layer network architecture, there are 128 servers, 32 Leaf switches, and 16 Spine switches. 1536 pieces #800G optical transceivers are required: Each Leaf switch has 16 interfaces(800G) for upward transmission and 16 interfaces(800G) for downstream transmission. Therefore, a total of 32*16+32*16=1024 pieces optical transceivers(800G) are required on 32 Leaf switches. Each Spine switch has 32 interfaces(800G), requiring 512 pieces optical transceivers(800G) for the 16 Spine switches. 1024 pieces #400G optical transceivers are required: Each Leaf has 16 downward transmission interfaces, and each interface connects downward to the server at a unidirectional rate of 2*400G. Therefore, a server connected to 32 Leaf switches requires 32*16*2=1024 pieces optical transceivers(400G).

On this Earth Day, it's a good opportunity for us to gently reflect on the impact of AI development on our planet. According to Stanford's AI Index Report 2024, the growth and complexity of AI models have led to increased energy consumption. This surge in energy use isn't just about power-it's also about carbon emissions. The carbon footprint of AI is substantial, with the emissions from training a single AI model being 25 times greater than a one-way flight from New York to San Francisco. The International Energy Agency's "Electricity 2024 Report" estimates that the power consumption of global AI data centers will be ten times that of 2022. This increase in power usage further contributes to global carbon emissions, making the carbon footprint of AI even larger. For years, ATOP has been committed to developing low power consumption optical transceivers, especially high-speed optical modules used in the AI field. This commitment not only saves energy but also helps to reduce carbon emissions, contributing to a more sustainable future for AI. Let's work together for a low-carbon future in AI! 🌍💡🌱 #EarthDay #AI #LowCarbonFuture #ATOP

In the realm of switched networks, AI supercomputing, and DCI scenarios, various optical connection solutions exist. The mainstream are optical transceivers with fiber, active optical cables (#AOCs), and direct attach cables (#DACs). Each of these solutions has its unique advantages, catering to different use cases. While large AI clusters heavily rely on optical transceivers, smaller systems predominantly utilize cables. Optical transceivers with cables offer extensive versatility, finding application in telecom convergence networks, backhaul networks, and digital communication switches. With a broad spectrum of transmission rates and packaging options, this solution adapts seamlessly to different fiber optic connectors, providing flexibility and controllable transmission distances. AOCs are specifically designed for high-bandwidth rack switches with interconnections within a hundred meters. By integrating optical transceivers and cables, AOCs enhance reliability, eliminating the risk of optical port contamination. This optimized design strikes a balance between cost and performance, minimizing the number of optical components, while DACs are suitable for connecting servers and GPUs to rack switches. With no need for optoelectronic conversion, DACs boast the lowest cost but face limitations in transmission distance at higher speeds. Explore ATOP's 800G optical modules, AOCs, and DACs for tailored solutions. https://lnkd.in/g6R4sGUH https://lnkd.in/gF_yKpwZ https://lnkd.in/gtAyFkhg
